Cumbernauld Museum
Nestled within the town’s main library, this friendly and accessible museum brings the rich heritage of Cumbernauld and the surrounding area to life.
From ancient pre-history and Roman occupation to the bustling 19th century and the creation of the New Town in the 1960s.
With a mix of maps, photographs, artefacts, and audio-visual displays, the museum is packed with stories of local industry, wartime experiences, community life, sport, and leisure. Highlights include:
A beautifully woven blanket from the 1880s by master weaver William Smith of Smithyends
A gold locket awarded to young hero Alex Bryce in 1885 for saving a child from the River Luggie
There’s something here to spark curiosity in visitors of all ages.
