Join the Library

It’s easy to join the library and it’s free!
Anyone who lives, works or studies in North Lanarkshire can join the library. South Lanarkshire residents are also able to join. You can join at any age and membership is free.
If you are under 16 you will need a parent or guardian to sign your library card. For under 16 members, ID for a parent or guardian is required.

You can join by visiting any library in North Lanarkshire.
Joining you local library in person will give you full library membership and access to all our services including online membership services.
What you need to bring with you when you join.
You will require one form of ID, showing your current name and address. Examples of suitable ID include:
- Driving licence
- Recent bank statements
- Utility bill, within the last 3 months
- Council tax notification
- Mobile phone bill
- Mortgage statement
- University/College letter
Electronic versions will also be accepted.
Certain items are not suitable e.g. supermarket cards and personal letters. If you cannot provide the types of ID required or are unsure if you have suitable examples please ask a member of staff for further information. People who only work or study in the area must show proof of their workplace or student card.

If you live, work or study in North Lanarkshire you can now join online and get instant access to all our eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers and online information sources. Simply click on the link below and follow the instructions.
PLEASE NOTE: You only require an online membership if you do not already have a full library membership obtained at a branch library. If you do have a full membership, you can use these details to access our eLibrary.
You can upgrade your online membership to full membership
To access the full range of library services upgrade your online membership to a full membership.
After joining online, take ID showing your current name and address to one of our libraries. Staff will upgrade your membership and provide you with your library card.

You can use your library membership online to access a range of additional options and services. You will need to use your password along with your library card to access many of these services.
