Our public pianos are for everyone. Whether you’re a confident pianist, a curious first‑timer, or someone who just fancies pressing a few keys, these pianos are an open invitation to make music part of everyday life.

There are many well-documented mental and physical health benefits to playing the piano, including:

When you can play the piano:
This piano is currrently closed to the public as we transform it with the local community as part of InspireFest 2026. We hope to launch this piano in mid-June.

You are welcome to play the piano during building opening hours.

About this piano:
This piano used to live in the ‘Green Room’ of Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre, which means some pretty big names were likely to tinkle its ivories! As part of the 2024 Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, North Lanarkshire Council Arts Development commissioned artist Connor Halligan to give the piano a makeover with the festival theme of “In/Visible”.

Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life
Where to find the piano:

Located in the Main Exhibition Hall, in the far left corner, near the Compton Cinema Organ. Please ask the friendly museum team for directions.

About this piano:
This piano used to live in the basement of Airdrie Town Hall, gathering dust. As part of the 2025 Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, North Lanarkshire Council Arts Development commissioned artist Jasmine Holt to give the piano a makeover with the festival theme of “Comfort and Disturb”.
